LITTLE LUXURIES

Guess who can't sleep at 1am! I'm greatly surprised to see how intolerant to caffeine I've become after just a few months of cutting it out completely. I've stopped drinking tea (except for rooibos, which is naturally decaf), coffee, cool drinks, and certainly no energy drinks. It's been a solid few months. And tonight I made the mistake of drinking a mug of ceylon tea before bed. It was a graver mistake than I had initially thought. My first worry was that I'd need to wake up during the night to use the loo, which is a walk through the lounge and kitchen in the dark. But worse than that, I've been awake for hours. Not energized - my mind is tired but my body just won't shut down. So I guess I've got to make a choice here - re-introduce caffeine into my diet so I don't reach this level of intolerance, or just never have a cup of tea before bed again.

My musing for tonight is about little luxuries.

I don't think a luxurious life is about the price tag attached to the things in it. A luxurious life, to me, is just a way of living romantically.

While I don't live a fancy life, it is romantic and sophisticated in its own way. Through little rituals, I have elevated my life to feel not so mundane. Here is how I make myself feel like the lady of my home, simple as it is:

1. PLATING MY TAKE-OUT

I'm not one to eat my take away straight out of the carton it came in. It feels much more intentional to place the amount I'll eat on a plate and use proper silverware. The same for any cool drinks and water - I'll empty out the cups, cans, or bottles into a glass. It feels and looks so much nicer than having plastic and polystyrene in my space.

2. WEARING A BLOUSE EVERY DAY

An interesting fact about me is that I own a grand total of 1 T-shirt, and I only bought it just a few days ago as emergency wear. Along with my first ever pair of jeans. Wearing a proper blouse or top makes me feel prepped and ready for the day, no matter how little has gone into my make up, hair, or shoe selection. Even when I'm working from home, a decent blouse makes my day feel more significant and meaningful than throwing on a casual T-shirt.

3. OWNING A FEW PERSONALLY BRANDED ITEMS

This is my favourite thing on the list. I own a few random items that are branded with my name or initials: mugs, stationery, accessories. It makes my world feel like it was made for me. It's such a fun thought to have items that are uniquely and identifiably yours. The aspiring designer in me feels like I'm creating my own line of merchandise.

Such a short and sweet thought for tonight. I'm looking forward to waking up tomorrow, plating the rest of my take out for breakfast, writing in my personalized journal, and wearing a cute blouse for the day!
